Speed, Agility & Elimination Skills
Field hockey is a sport that requires agility and strong elimination skills. Agility is necessary to move quickly and efficiently around the field, while elimination skills are essential for getting past defenders and scoring goals.
To enhance agility, this skills class will focus on quick changes of direction and explosive movements that are necessary for all elimination skills. These drills can involve cones, ladders, mini hurdles, and other agility equipment. Players will also work on their footwork and balance by combining exercises like lunges, squats, and jump training.
Elimination skills can only be improved through practice and repetition. Players will work on their stick handling and receiving techniques to better maneuver the ball past defenders. They will also practice 1v1 drills to simulate game situations and improve their ability to get past defenders.
In addition to physical training, mental preparation is also important in field hockey. Players should focus on staying alert and aware of their surroundings, anticipating the movements of other players, and catching defenders on their heels with explosive cuts.
When athletes prioritize their speed, agility, and elimination skills, field hockey players can become more effective and successful on the field.
